The US Einstein Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies is a member institute
of a proposed network of Einstein Institutes around the world under the
Einstein World Council Foundation. Einstein Institutes in India and Germany
are underway with others being planned for Japan, Australia, and several
other countries. The purpose of the Einstein Institutes is to stimulate,
facilitate, and help coordinate the work of member research facilities,
applied projects, training programs, student-scholar exchange programs,
conferences, and technological partnerships among the participating nations.
The academic institutions currently sponsoring the Einstein Institutes
(University of Connecticut, Visva-Bharati University, Humboldt University,
and Potsdam University) share a commitment to help further collaborative
activities across a wide range of disciplines.
At the University of Connecticut the mission of the US Einstein Institute
is incorporated under the mission of the Office of International Affairs:
"The entire University of Connecticut community must be prepared
to address the crucial global issues of international peace and understanding,
equitable social and economic development, the production and transfer
of scientific knowledge and state of the art technology, and improvement
in a competitive world market system. The University community represents
an outstanding repository of research capacity, knowledge, skills, and
teaching competencies in the area of international relations and international
studies. In the rapidly changing global environment it is incumbent
upon us to insure that this tremendously valuable resource be available
to the people of Connecticut, the nation, and the world. In order to
insure that this university remains in the forefront of the production
and dissemination of state of the art knowledge, the [Office of] International
Affairs endeavors to enrich, facilitate, and promote the international
activities of faculty, students, and the educational, artistic, and
business communities."
